We're heading to Africa!!!

It's official!! Melissa and I have just accepted a position with Mercy Ships (http://www.mercyships.org/),  which operates the largest, non-governmental, floating hospital in the world! Mercy Ships provides medical care and life-saving surgeries - free of charge - to the poorest of the poor in western Africa. These patients have essentially no access to basic medical care, much less state of the art Western medicine.
We will be joining the Africa Mercy this September along with over 450 other volunteers from over 35 countries in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Africa. We have committed to volunteer at least 2 years and possibly more depending on God's calling! We have been feeling God move us into full-time medical missions over the last year, and we believe this is an amazing opportunity for our family. I will be serving as the new Crew Physician, caring for the needs of the medical staff and support crew, as well as assisting with post-operative care for the African surgical patients. In addition to patient care, I will also oversee the Lab, Pharmacy, and Radiology departments. The position appears to be a perfect fit for me! Melissa will also be volunteering on board while Will and Emily attend school during the day. The Academy has 50-60 students in K-12 from all around the world!
We are sending this out to all of our email and Facebook contacts - there are so many we want to share this news with! We would love to keep in touch with all of you as we prepare for this amazing new chapter in our lives. If you would like to join our newsletter mailing list, please click on the link to the right and you can sign up for our upcoming family newsletter. We will continue to be on Facebook so you can keep up with us there, too. We'd love to "Friend" you!
Please pray for us as we begin to prepare for our move to Africa this Fall. This is possibly the biggest leap of faith ever for our family, as we will have to raise the finances to be able to "volunteer" for the next 2 years. A major prayer concern is the sale of our home in Cumming, as well as the selling, packing, or giving away of all our “stuff”. We are already seeing God move in amazing ways, and we know He can more than provide for our needs as we move forward in His calling on our lives! Some of you have already said you would like to help support us financially, and we are so truly grateful! Below is a link, for your convenience, that you can click on to make a one-time or a monthly tax-deductible donation on our behalf.  https://connect.mercyships.org/page/outreach/view/crewmates/Trapnell.

Melissa and I look forward to sharing with you what God is doing through us as we journey through this together!
In Christ,
The Trapnells - Kevin, Melissa, Will, and Emily

  2. There is nothing more exciting than to be able to spend all of your time in ministry. There are great adventures ahead of all of you. Missions is at the very heart of God. He takes note of those who give their lives to serve Him and minister in the Name of Jesus. You will see and experience things that God holds for those who are surrendered to him. I am very proud of you. Much love - Daddy
